HGE33 Pompeii. Herculaneum Gate East Side. Grave of an unknown person.

Ustrinum? Unfinished grave? (Eschebach East 33, Kockel Nord 33).

According to Kockel, there was a door shown on all the excavation drawings. Today the walls are largely restored and the door cannot be seen any more.

Also a number of authors refer to this as a ustrinum, but he regards the dimensions as insufficient for such a purpose and it is more likely an unfinished grave from the last days of Pompeii.

See Kockel V., 1983. Die Grabbauten vor dem Herkulaner Tor in Pompeji. Mainz: von Zabern. (p. 162).
