VI.14.43 Pompeii.
December 2007. Room 14, mosaic fountain in garden area.
According to
Jashemski, when the fountain was excavated there was a pedestal in the niche, in
which stood a statue of Mars.
This is now in Naples
Archaeological Museum, inventory number 126249, Ruesch: 1924.
Below on the pedestal
was a mask of a woman, which was bordered with mosaic and coloured marble, from
which the water jetted.
