![VI.14.35/36 Pompeii. 1878 copy of frescoes set in a white panel above a red dado on the north wall. Now in Naples Archaeological Museum. Inventory number 111482. Each of the four different scenes was illustrated with painted inscriptions. According to Berry, on the left -
A scene of a man and a woman kissing. The man says “I don’t want to do it with Myrtale”.
A scene of gambling. A man says “I’ve got it”. Another man on the right says “Its two not three”.
on the right –
A scene of drinkers, a man calls to a bar maid “Over here” and another man on the right says “No its mine” and the bar maid says
“Whoever wants it should take it. Oceanus come here and drink”.
A scene of conflict (damaged). The men fight and the innkeeper tells them to leave. Above his head are the words “Go on, get out of here! You have been fighting”! See Berry, J., 2007. The Complete Pompeii. London, Thames & Hudson, (p.231-2)
According to Epigraphik-Datenbank Clauss/Slaby (See www.manfredclauss.de), these are CIL IV 3494, which read –

Pompeii. May 2005. Looking east across bar-room to rear rooms.

VI.14.36
Pompeii. December 2007. Doorway on north side of the
east wall, leading to the kitchen.
According to Guzzo, (ed.), “a wooden staircase at the side of the kitchen led to
the upper floor.
At the moment of the
eruption, two people were trying to shelter from the rain of pumice on the upper
floor of the building.
Maybe the owners or
the managers of the bar, and in their flight they had
taken their most precious valuables”.
See Guzzo, P. (ed). (2003): Tales from
an eruption, Pompeii, Herculaneum, Oplontis.
