VI.14.29 Pompeii. May 2005. Looking west through entrance doorway.
According to
Wallace-Hadrill, originally this would have been a room from VI.14.30 on the
south side of the fauces.
It had Style III
decoration.

VI.14.29 Pompeii. May
2006. North wall.
According to Della Corte, the room of the stairs at
VI.14.29 which had originally been a cubiculum of the House of the Laocoonte, was decorated with Style III paintings. These
have only been preserved in part on the north wall.
In the centre of the north wall was found the picture of a
man and a woman on a bed, in front of which is a table with drinks: a servant
stands nearby.
The painting is now in the Naples Archaeological Museum. Inventory number 111209.
Sogliano described it (Sog.641 on p. 131). (Bull.Inst 1876, p.51, and Giorn.Scav.Pomp, n.s. III, p.147).
Another painting, Sogliano S.649, described a female
figure lying on a bed.
According to Sogliano this was found in the room to the
left of the entrance of VI.14.28 (Bull.Inst 1876,
p.51), but no decoration has survived.
Della Corte thought it may have been from the
corresponding room on the upper floor, as did Mau (B.I., 1876, p.49).
This painting may have been in the cella meretricia, whose
location was unknown.
