there were two benches for sitting at the sides of the doorway.

linking with the shop at VI.2.23.

On the north side of the steps, on the right, was a small
storeroom or cupboard.
At the rear of the steps, on the left (west side), was an
oecus, (not photographed).
According to Helbig, a painting of
Narcissus,
was found in a room “well behind to the right”.

Arched niche in west wall of garden area
or oecus, with remains of marble shelf.
According to Giacobello, this is at quite a considerable
height from the floor.
The internal walls of the niche were plastered in white
stucco.
The niche was visible from the vestibule at the entrance.

The doorway on the left would have been a cubiculum
(Eschebach called it a “repositorium”)
with a window.
The doorway in the centre would have been into the small
garden area.
