On the west side of the doorway, a square hole in the doorpost can be seen.  Originally this was covered with glass, and would have contained a lamp for lighting the passageway at night. Alley 
After the block called insula 4 is an alley with writings, in which the owners of the buildings invoked the wrath of Jupiter on those who dirtied the walls.
“Cacator cave malum” and also “Cacator, cave malum, aut, si contemseris, habeas Jovem iratum”.

In the vicolo between insula 4 and 5 are inscriptions in which the owners of the buildings invoked the wrath of Jupiter on those who defecated here. “Cacator cave malum” is written twice [CIL IV 7714 and 7715] and also a third “Cacator, cave malum, aut, si contemseris, habeas Jovem iratum” [CIL IV 7716].
