The area of I.3.9,
I.3.10 and I.3.11 were disrupted years ago in the tunnelling of Fontana’s Sarno
canal.
Here a grille covers
access to the canal.
According to CTP, this
area was first destroyed by the workings of Domenico Fontana, between 1592-1600.
Then later, the Sarno
canal was deviated to a lower level in 1906-7 to make clear the path of the Via
Stabiana.
